Things to do

Our venue is technically in Tampa, but it is very centrally located to Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Pete. The Bay Area offers something for everyone and we hope you will enjoy exploring.

Beaches

Clearwater Beach: This is the closest beach to the venue and has been voted among the best beaches in America multiple times. We agree it’s amazing but expect it to be crowded and hard to find parking. You may want to arrive early.

Indian Rocks Beach: A little farther south, Indian Rocks is known for being more of the “local beach.” It’s usually a little quieter, but we still recommend going early.

Ft DeSoto: As a state park, this is another quieter option and also offers some history. The east beach offers a great view of the iconic Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Pass-A-Grille Beach: Until the construction project took away all the parking, this was Julie’s favorite beach. Drive by the pretty pink Don Ceasar, get some panda flavored ice cream, and if you are a runner, it’s the best beach to run. We will update you if the construction calms down and in the meantime it’s still open, just a little messy.

Attractions

Busch Gardens: For those of you brave enough for the roller-coasters!

Tampa Aquarium: This is a highly rated aquarium with penguins, among everything else you would want. For a smaller but more directed experience also check out the Clearwater Aquarium. The dolphin from the movie The Dolphins Tale lives here and they also have otters. We like otters.

Lowry Park Zoo: No pandas, but they do have koalas. This is a great zoo.

The Florida Strawberry Festival: Our wedding is kind of a big deal, but if you only have a chance to do one thing while you are in town, go to the Strawberry Festival in Plant City (about 30 short minutes from Tampa). This is an annual event that we are lucky enough to have cross over with our wedding. Choose your adventure: cheer on the pig race, make your own strawberry shortcake, shop unique gifts, whiten your teeth, try fried butter, enter an eating contest, watch a great band, and that’s only half of the event: the other half is a full carnival and we recommend the Ferris Wheel. Pro tip: if you want some strawberries to take home, buy them outside the festival doors, not inside.

Around Town

Tampa Riverwalk and Armature works: The river walk is a beautiful walk along the Hillsborough River and the heart of downtown Tampa. It ends at Armature Works which has tasty food for all.

Downtown St Pete: Welcome to Julie’s running route! Spend a relaxing afternoon in Vinoy Park, and check out any of the fun shops and restaurants on Beach Dr. The Salvador Dali Museum and Chihuly Collection are also favorites.
